THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES
Each client has a unique history, mental health presentation, and therapeutic goal. Therefore, my center utilizes a variety of the most effective approaches toward helping individuals and families. Below you will find some of the areas I specialize in and use with clients regularly.
* Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy- Understand how your thoughts influence your actions. Learn strategies to change those faulty patterns.
* Trauma-Informed Care- Become informed about the facts and impacts related to your particular trauma(s). Develop skills to manage your resulting symptoms. Utilize the therapeutic process to share and accept your story.
* Psychoeducation- A key component in therapy is becoming educated about the mental illness at hand as well as the research around effective treatment.
* Play Therapy- Uses play as a means of exploring and resolving underlying issues. Children often do not have the verbal skills or verbal memory to process their experiences.
* Exposure- Research has shown that the most effective way to overcome a particular anxiety is to slowly and carefully expose yourself to the identified fear.
* Neuroplasticity- "Re-wire your brain.” Beliefs that we are hardwired and incapable of change are ideas of the past. Your brain is capable of change and creating new pathways. Awareness and simplistic change start the process of healthier brain connections.
* Psychodynamic- The founder of psychotherapy, Sigmund Frued, should not be ignored. Your unconscious does exist, should be explored can help develop insight. Understanding your id, ego and superego can be quite powerful and allow for a “cathartic” experience. We believe that this modality is best for adults wanting a deeper connection to self and experience.
* Mindfulness- Learn how to be present in the here and now. Dismissing the worries of your past and fears of the future can allow you to be still which is much easier said than done.
* Person-Centered- You are the “expert leader” in treatment. We as therapists are trustworthy, empathetic, and transparent.s
